Chamyana hospital Road blocked

The Sukhu Government Fails to Provide Safe Entry and Exit of patients, staff and doctors from this Isolated Hospital near the City...

SHIMLA– Patients heading to the Atal Super Speciality Hospital in Chamiana are playing with death.

The road is blocked by constant landslides.Shooting stones rain down without warning.

Ambulances stall for hours. Patients are forced to walk across the danger zone.Elderly people limp over loose gravel.

Mothers clutch children and run hazardously to and from Hospital at the landslide-prone stretch.

“It’s like walking under a firing squad,” said Swati, who came for a consultation.

One misstep, and the slope below swallows you.

Doctors too are trapped in this daily gamble.

“We can’t reach in time for emergencies,” a senior doctor admitted.

Medical staff arrive late, exhausted and shaken.

Hospital staff and doctors shifted from IGMC are hapless as the hospital is turning into a nightmare.

The Chamiana Hospital is creation of  few real estate hungry bureaucrats and their political masters who were misled by then big babus to construct this Hospital here to ease out rush from IGMC.

Today it has become an "inaccessible  white elephant" as many super specialities have not shifted here as it would amount to suicidal for critical patients, revealed doctors.

Ironically, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently patted himself on the back for inaugurating the first ceremonial robotic surgery here.

But the government has failed to provide a safe road even after nearly three years in power.

PWD engineers blame the rains and the freshly widened road.

They claim the slope and weak strata make it unstable.

Experts say this is a poor excuse.

Natural drains are  have disturbedby reckless JCB cutting. Slopes are unprotected.

Water has no safe passage,  triggering the slides.

Every trip to Chamiana now feels like a death sentence.

And yet, no one in power is in a hurry to fix it.
