Shimla, September 18: The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday inaugurated a second Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge at Kullu, aimed at strengthening the district’s judicial infrastructure and addressing the growing case pendency.
Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia inaugurated the new court virtually in the presence of High Court judges and judicial officers. He said Kullu was witnessing a sharp increase in disputes and crimes, particularly cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, amid rising footfall in the district.
Around 3,800 cases are currently pending before the appellate courts at the Judicial Court Complex, Kullu, the Chief Justice said, stressing that each pending case represents a person awaiting resolution.
Justice Sandhawalia said the existing judicial infrastructure was inadequate to meet the growing demands and that the additional court was necessary for faster disposal of cases.
He said a court was not merely a building or another office but represented the rule of law and protection of individual rights. He urged judicial officers and members of the Bar to work together to ensure fair hearings and minimise delays.
Amit Mandyal, Additional District Judge, will preside over the newly established court. The Chief Justice also appreciated District and Sessions Judge P.C. Rana and other stakeholders for putting the required infrastructure in place.
Administrative Judge for Kullu, Justice Rakesh Kainthla, was also congratulated on the establishment of the new court.
