LEH: A minor breach has been reported in the first rock check dam constructed at Upshi near Leh under the ongoing pilot initiative for water conservation and climate resilience in Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena said, adding that the damaged portion was being swiftly repaired by engineers.

Saxena said inspections of the check dams had also revealed a positive development, with fine-quality washed sand deposits accumulating upstream and further strengthening the stability of the rock structures.

Describing the pilot projects as an important learning exercise, the Lieutenant Governor said they had provided valuable technical know-how and field experience that would help make future projects more robust and resilient.

“These pilot projects have been an invaluable learning experience, giving us the exact knowhow to make all future projects completely foolproof,” Saxena said.

He also thanked local communities for their support and participation in the initiative, saying their cooperation was crucial for the success of water conservation and climate-resilience measures in the region.

Saxena said the administration remained committed to pursuing holistic development, strengthening water security and building climate resilience in Ladakh to secure a sustainable future for its people.
