NEW DELHI, JULY 21: Amid the ongoing uproar by students demanding accountability from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the conduct of national entrance examinations, the United Doctors Front (UDF) has written to the President of India and the Prime Minister seeking the replacement of the National Testing Agency (NTA) with a statutory National Examination Authority established through an Act of Parliament.
In its representation, the UDF reiterated its long-standing demand for comprehensive examination reforms, stating that the existing NTA framework has repeatedly come under scrutiny due to concerns over transparency, credibility and accountability in conducting high-stakes examinations such as NEET.
The doctors' body informed the President and the Prime Minister that it had earlier placed the same proposal before the Parliamentary Standing Committee and that a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking similar reforms is already pending before the Supreme Court.
The UDF emphasized that the issue should not be viewed through a political lens.
"This is not about BJP, Congress, AAP or any other political party, nor is it about any protest group. It is about the future of India's medical students. Every doctor was once a NEET aspirant. Their future must not be politicized; instead, the examination system must be reformed," the representation stated.
Dr. Lakshya Mittal, Chairperson of the United Doctors Front, said the organization has urged the Centre to replace the NTA with a statutory National Examination Authority created through an Act of Parliament to ensure transparency, accountability and institutional independence in conducting national-level examinations.
"India's medical aspirants deserve an examination system that is transparent, accountable and legally empowered. The repeated controversies surrounding the NTA have eroded students' confidence. We have urged the Hon'ble President and the Hon'ble Prime Minister to establish a statutory National Examination Authority. This is not a political issue—it is about protecting the future of millions of students and restoring faith in India's examination system," Dr. Mittal said.
The UDF maintained that a statutory authority with clear legal backing would strengthen the credibility of national entrance examinations and safeguard the interests of millions of aspiring medical students across the country.
