SHIMLA : Himalayan Forest Research Institute honoured Four women on International Women's Day' at the institute under Amrut Mahotsav of Independence.
Dr Jagdish Singh, Scientist-F, Head of Division of Extension,HFRI welcomed Dr. R.K. Verma, Head of the Office of Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Dr. Shramja Munjal, 'Associate Professor' St. Beads College, Shimla, who was the keynote speaker. He presented the outline of the programme and highlighted the importance of 'International Women's Day'.
Dr. Verma spoke about the contribution of women in every field. He appreciated the loyalty of the women of the institute towards their work.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Shramja Munjal gave detailed information on "Women's Empowerment in Science". She spoke about the problems faced by women in the field of work and stressed on the right of women to gender equality. She said that it is very important for women to have knowledge of their rights.
She highlighted the potential and contribution of women by giving examples of various women such as Anandibai Joshi, Janaki Ammalo, Rosalind Franklin, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw etc., and the work done by them. Women should be recognised for their work so that they are encouraged to do more work.
Swarna Lata, Mrs. Naroda Pal, Sonika Sharma, Ms. Krishna Kumari were honoured by the Chief Guest, Dr. Shramja Munjal and Dr. R.K. Verma with mementos and certificates for their contribution to social and economic development.
