MANDI: Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that fairs and festivals of Himachal Pradesh were unique in their own way and were means for celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the State.
Presiding over the closing ceremony of the week-long International Shivratri Fair at temple town of Mandi today he said rich colours of tradition witnessed during these festivals should be preserved for posterity as they affirm our identity as a great state and nation.
But real attraction for the Shivratri enthusiasts was the "Dance of Wheels", a spectacular cultural feat performed by the specially abled children on the concluding day in the temple town.
Arlekar said that festivals were celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the year in Himachal Pradesh. "It is a part of our life as celebrating them never brings negativity in our mind. That is why the enthusiasm of our mind should never diminish", said the Governor.
He said like the height of the mountains, the people here also have big hearts and their hospitality was cordial and Himachal is known for this. He added that the importance of Devbhoomi increases with its people who believed in God. 
Arlekar said that culture and its heritage reflect and shape values, beliefs, and aspirations besides defining our national identity. He said that fairs and festivals provide new energy to the people and we should actively participate in them besides helping the suffering humanity with selflessness.
Earlier, the Governor paid obeisance at Madho Rai Temple and also participated in the Jaleb Shobha Yatra. He also participated in ‘Bhoj’.
Arindam Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman Mela Committee welcomed and honoured the Governor. He said that this was for the first time seven cultural nights were organized and 200 hundred registered deities have participated in the festival. 
A cultural program was also organized on the occasion.Deepali Jaswal, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Mandi, Virender Bhatt, Deputy Mayor, Shripal Verma, Chairperson Zila Parishad, Payal Vaidya, General Secretary, Child Welfare Council, Shalini Agnihotri, Superintendent of Police, senior officer of the district administration and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
The Governor enjoyed the cultural programme of the International Shivratri Festival last evening. He was impressed by the performance of 'Dance on Wheels' presented by specially abled children. On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Arindam Choudhary also honored the Governor.
After the closing ceremony the processions of Devtas headed for their temple treasuries located in different parts of the Mandi region.
