Dehradun: In a promising development for urban greenery, the Miyawaki pilot initiative in Dehradun's Vasant Vihar area has shown significant progress over the past six months.
Anoop Nautiyal, founder of the SDC Foundation said that project in collaboration with the Forest Research Institute of the Govt. of Uttarakhand, Vasant Vihar Doon Valley Officers Co-operative Housing Society, and the SGI Foundation, aimed to rejuvenate the cityscape with indigenous flora.
Since its inception on August 20, 2023, the project has seen remarkable growth, with over 300 saplings of local species like amaltas, neem, bhimal, tejpatta, moringa, parijaat, and kachnaar taking root in the area.
Nautiyal emphasized the importance of regular maintenance, including timely watering, weeding, and upkeep of the public space, which has contributed to the visible transformation.
"The results speak for themselves," stated Nautiyal, reflecting on the collaborative effort's success. "We are pleased with the progress we've achieved thus far and are committed to sustaining the momentum."
The Miyawaki patch, strategically situated on the main road between Vivek Gupta Chowk and Panditwari, serves as a beacon of hope for greener, more sustainable urban environments.
Expressing gratitude for the support received from various stakeholders, Nautiyal emphasized the need for continued dedication to ensure the initiative's long-term success.
"With perseverance and community involvement, we are optimistic about the future growth and flourishing of this green oasis," he remarked.
As the Miyawaki initiative in Dehradun sets an example for other urban areas, Nautiyal and his team at the SDC Foundation remain committed to expanding their efforts and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
