Shimla Water Utility Partners with Rotary Club to Drive City-Wide Conservation

SHIMLA — In a major push toward sustainable resource management, Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) has joined hands with the Rotary Club of Shimla Royal, Panthaghati. The two organizations officially formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to roll out a collaborative, community-driven water conservation initiative across the city.

The strategic alliance bridges SJPNL’s technical utility infrastructure with the grassroots community network of the Rotary Club. The partnership is designed to tackle urban water challenges head-on by strengthening conservation efforts, protecting vulnerable natural water sources, and fostering active civic participation.

Key Focus Areas of the Initiative

The newly launched partnership will target several critical areas to secure Shimla's water future:

Conservation & Public Education: Conducting targeted seminars in schools, public workshops, and localized civic drives to promote responsible water usage habits among residents.

*Spring Revival & Rainwater Harvesting: Undertaking catchment cleanup campaigns, restoring natural water springs, and promoting rainwater harvesting retrofits across residential and commercial buildings.

Infrastructure & Leak Detection Support: Engaging local communities in leak detection awareness and establishing streamlined reporting channels to minimize water wastage.

Transparent Communication Channels: Working directly with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Ward Committees to ensure real-time supply updates and faster grievance redressal.
