SHIMLA, SEPTEMBER 8: Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on September 13 and 14, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest weather bulletin issued on Tuesday.
The forecast comes as several weather systems remain active across north and central India. The IMD has also predicted widespread rainfall over neighbouring Uttarakhand from September 10 to 14, with isolated heavy rainfall during the period.
The weather activity in Himachal is expected to intensify toward the weekend, with thunderstorms and lightning accompanying the rainfall on September 13 and 14. The department has advised people to remain alert during periods of lightning and thunderstorms.
The monsoon trough remains active over northern parts of the country, while a cyclonic circulation lies over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar. A trough extends from south Gujarat towards this circulation, while another trough stretches from south Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar.
A fresh low-pressure area is also likely to develop over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts, around September 11. The system is expected to influence rainfall activity across several parts of central, eastern and southern India.
Heavy rainfall is also forecast in several states over the coming days, including Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, parts of northeast India and the southern peninsula. Odisha could experience isolated very heavy rainfall on September 10.
The IMD said very heavy rainfall of 12-20 cm was recorded during the past 24 hours over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Assam, while heavy rainfall of 7-11 cm was reported from parts of East Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Mizoram.
