Bir Billing Paragliding World Cup to Elevate Himachal Pradesh's Global Adventure Status
Shimla, 24 July 2024: Himachal Pradesh is gearing up to host the Paragliding World Cup 2024 at Bir Billing from November 2nd to 9th, marking a significant milestone for adventure tourism in the state.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the event's official website today, promising a thrilling experience for both participants and spectators.
The World Cup, organized by the Billing Paragliding Association in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Government, will feature 130 pilots from 50 countries competing at one of the world's premier paragliding sites.
The picturesque Bir Billing, set against the stunning Dhauladhar Mountain range, is renowned for its challenging cross-country paragliding conditions.
"This World Cup is a fantastic opportunity to boost tourism and showcase our state's natural beauty and adventure potential," said CM Sukhu.
He highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring safe and well-organized paragliding events, emphasizing the region's ideal landscapes and weather for such sports.
In addition to the World Cup, the Himachal Paragliding Festival will run concurrently, celebrating India's cultural arts, adventure sports, wellness, literature, and entertainment.
Special initiatives are planned to promote 'Women in Paragliding' and to highlight Indian sportsmanship through world-class opening and closing ceremonies.
Kangra district, now dubbed the 'Tourism Capital' of Himachal Pradesh, will benefit from improved infrastructure to enhance visitor experiences.
Plans include constructing heliports at every district headquarters, with five already underway, and initiating water tourism activities at Govindsagar reservoir and Andhroli in Una.
Hot air ballooning at Pong Dam is also on the agenda to support the local economy. Additionally, shops will remain open 24 hours during peak tourism seasons to cater to tourists.
Anurag Sharma, President of the Billing Paragliding Association, noted that the World Cup will spotlight both the exceptional talent of paragliders and the breathtaking beauty of the Kangra region on an international stage.
The World Cup promises to put Bir Billing, along with nearby towns like Palampur and Joginder Nagar, firmly on the global adventure map.
