CBI Busts Corruption Racket in ECHS Polyclinic, Hisar: Four, Including Two Doctors, Caught Red-Handed.
CHANDIGARH: THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unearthed a corruption racket in the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic in Hisar, Haryana.
Four individuals, including a doctor from the polyclinic, a private doctor acting as a middleman, an accountant from the Ministry of Defence, and a private individual, were caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh.
This case exposes the deep-rooted corruption within the system, with the investigation revealing the alleged nexus between officials and intermediaries in settling cases for hefty sums of money.
The CBI registered the case on January 25, 2025, based on a complaint from the owner of a private hospital in Rohtak. The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded ₹1.40 crore to close an inquiry against the hospital.
A partial payment of ₹35 lakh had reportedly already been made, with another ₹35 lakh demanded as an advance.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the private doctor, who was acting as a middleman, red-handed while accepting ₹10 lakh.
Subsequently, the doctor employed at the ECHS Polyclinic, Hisar, was also arrested.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of a senior accounts officer from the Ministry of Defence and a private individual, both of whom allegedly facilitated approvals for the accused, revealed CBI.
Searches conducted during the operation led to the recovery of ₹25 lakh in cash and incriminating documents, further cementing the allegations of widespread corruption.
All four accused were presented before the Panchkula Court today which remanded them to judicial custody.
The case highlights the proverbial "tip of the iceberg," pointing to a larger nexus operating within the ECHS network to exploit the system in exchange for bribes.
The investigation is ongoing, and more revelations are expected as the CBI digs deeper into the matter.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the corruption threatening the integrity of systems meant to serve ex-servicemen and their families.
