Shimla: The Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, backed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), today organized protests across various parts of Himachal Pradesh, calling for government action against what they claim are illegal mosque constructions and demanding proper identification of migrants from outside the state.
Protests were held in several regions, including Shimla, Gumma, Hamirpur, Jaisinghpur, Nagarota, Mandi . Unfortunately an activist died after fell down during the march on the road in Hamirpur, police.
But the protests were peaceful.
Protesters marched through the streets chanting Hanuman Chalisa in support of their cause, asserting their demand for the removal of these allegedly unauthorized structures.
The Samiti also demanded the withdrawal of cases registered against protestors involved in the Sanjauli protests earlier this year, where similar grievances had sparked clashes with police.
Leaders from the VHP and other supporting organizations emphasized the need for stronger government action, accusing authorities of turning a blind eye to illegal constructions and unverified migrants.
The protestors raised concerns over the demographic changes these developments could cause, calling for strict documentation and verification of migrant workers and outsiders settling in the state.
A Samiti spokesperson stated, "We are not against any religion, but the illegal construction of mosques without proper permits cannot be allowed. We want the government to take strict action and identify those responsible for these constructions."
The protests, which saw a large turnout in various districts, are part of a growing movement led by the VHP and allied groups to highlight what they see as the state's failure to regulate constructions and migration patterns.
According to sources, the Sangharsh Samiti has also been mobilizing through social media and local networks, urging citizens to join the movement and pressurize the government into taking immediate action.
While the government is yet to release an official statement addressing the protestors’ demands, the situation remains tense, with both sides likely to dig in further if no resolution is reached soon.
