Shimla: In a bid to enhance disaster recovery efforts in Himachal Pradesh, a Dubai-based company has offered drones for medical supplies in Himachal.
The Vice President of United Parcel Service (UPS), Christina Struller Da Costa, met with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to propose the use of drone technology for the transportation of medicines and vaccines to remote areas of the state. This offer comes in the wake of the monsoon fury that caused extensive damage in the region.
UPS, the world's largest logistics company, not only offered drone technology but also pledged to provide essential medicines and vaccines to the state government free of cost. Acknowledging the potential of this advanced logistics technology to improve healthcare delivery in remote areas, Chief Minister Sukhu expressed gratitude for the proposal.
To further explore this opportunity, the Department of Digital Technology and Governance will develop a detailed proposal in collaboration with the company. The state government will subsequently decide on leveraging the services offered by UPS.
Himachal Pradesh has been grappling with the aftermath of torrential rains and landslides during the monsoon season, resulting in significant losses to public and private properties. In response, the government has allocated a relief package of Rs. 4500 crore to aid in recovery efforts.
The Chief Minister also noted the invaluable support from the people of the state, who have made historic donations exceeding Rs. 200 crore to the Aapda Rahat Kosh-2023. Their enthusiastic willingness to help has played a crucial role in alleviating the challenges faced during this difficult period.
The Secretary of Digital Technology and Governance, Dr. Abhishek Jain, was also present during the meeting to discuss the potential collaboration with UPS.
