Shimla: The politics over the Rohtang Tunnel is resurfaced. Earlier the Congress had slammed the previous Jai Ram Thakur government for dumping the plaque that bore the name of then then UPA II chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Now BJP spokesperson and Chopal MLA Balbir Verma expressed his concern over the recent Congress allegations about changing the plaque at the Atal Tunnel, a project inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress had released photo of the event when Sonia Gandhi, along with then CM Prem Kumar Dhumal and former CM Virbhadra Singh were there for laying the foundation stone of the Rohtang tunnel in 2010.
Verma criticized this new tradition initiated by the Congress government, stating that it goes against the sentiments of the public.
He emphasized the need to utilize government and public funds wisely and avoid misuse.
Verma also highlighted an instance of financial irregularities during a disaster, where some individuals received disproportionate amounts of relief funds while others were given step motherly treatment.
He mentioned a past delegation of apple growers during Jairam Thakur's government, who reported collusion between commission agents and vendors robbing the growers.
Verma noted the successful formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that recovered over Rs 100 crore and arrested defaulters involved in embezzling grocers money.
While expressing support for the idea of a Universal Carton, Verma questioned the need to dispose of existing cotton stocks and emphasized the importance of selling all available produce.
He urged the government to support rural communities and avoid creating an atmosphere of fear among them.
