Mumbai/Shimla: As Himachal’s Sukhu-led Congress government nears its two-year mark, BJP leaders, including Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur and Himachal BJP President Dr. Rajeev Bindal, didn’t mince words in their critique, branding it as a "Tax Guarantee Government" rather than a people-oriented Sarkar.
Speaking in Mumbai, Thakur urged voters to reject Congress’s "false guarantees," dubbing the Maharashtra coalition as "Maha Vasooli Aghadi" (the Grand Extortion Front), and appealed to voters to back the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance instead.
Anurag Thakur Exposes "Empty Guarantees and Mismanagement" by Congress
Thakur was blunt in his assessment, saying, "Himachal's Congress government has turned into a symbol of broken promises, economic mismanagement, and bizarre policies.
Yet Congress shamelessly peddles a false narrative nationwide, claiming it’s delivering on promises.” He added, “This Congress government isn’t fulfilling its commitments—it's only subjecting Himachal’s people to ridicule.”
Thakur accused Congress of betraying voters across states, remarking, “Himachal is drowning in debt, and still, the Sukhu government keeps piling on taxes.
They promised free electricity but slapped a surcharge, promised free water but added fees, and even put a tax on toilet seats! Mothers and sisters are still waiting for their promised ₹1,500 monthly support, farmers for their subsidies on cow dung and milk, and youth for those 5 lakh jobs Congress talked about before the elections.”
The BJP leader highlighted Himachal’s massive debt burden under Congress’s rule, which he claimed has ballooned to ₹96,000 crore.
“Inflation, hostility toward industry, and a mess of debt—they’ve crushed the state,” Thakur said, asserting that Congress has “its hand on the throat of Himachal’s people.”
Bindal: Sukhu’s ‘5 Guarantees’ Are Just More Burdens on People
Dr. Rajeev Bindal, BJP Himachal President, pointed out that Sukhu’s government, instead of fulfilling its election promises, has instead achieved the dubious feat of closing 1,500 public institutions.
“From schools to primary health centers, veterinary hospitals to patwari circles—everything’s been shut down,” he said. “In just 22 months, this government has set a record by taking ₹26,000 crore in loans.”
Bindal was scathing, listing what he sarcastically termed Sukhu’s “5 guarantees”: a 500% increase in stamp duty, a steep hike in diesel VAT by ₹7 per liter, massive HRTC fare increases, an unfulfilled free electricity promise with a 46% power rate hike instead, and new water charges even in rural areas.
“When Congress came into power, it promised relief but delivered taxes. Today, people are burdened with ‘guarantees’ of tax hikes—be it on toilets, luxury items, electricity, or water,” said Bindal.
He said, “With Congress, there’s only one guarantee: the guarantee of more taxes.”
