Shimla, March 6: Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti has submitted a memorandum to Shimla MLA Harish Janata Janartha, demanding a comprehensive and holistic policy to combat drug abuse in the state.

The committee’s State Secretary, Satyawan Pundir, and Shimla Urban Unit President, Govind Chatrantha, stated that the campaign against drugs will be further intensified, with International Women's Day (March 8) focusing on the role of mothers in preventing drug abuse.

Call for Special Discussion in the Assembly

Pundir emphasized that drug addiction has become a serious crisis in Himachal Pradesh.

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly session, the committee will submit memorandums to MLAs across the state, urging them to raise this issue for a special discussion and formulate a concrete policy to curb drug abuse.

He highlighted that this is not just a law enforcement issue but a major social challenge that requires a strategic and multi-dimensional approach.

Demand for Strict Measures in Upcoming Elections

The committee also demanded strict punitive provisions to prevent drug distribution and misuse in the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections.

It pointed out that the free and excessive use of drugs during elections has become a growing concern and needs immediate intervention.

Rising Youth Deaths in Shimla a Major Concern
