SHIMLA: Praveen Sood, a 1986 Indian Police Service(IPS) officer, who hails from Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed as the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, a Government of India-run premier investigating agency.

Sood is the second IPS officer from Himachal Pradesh who became CBI director.

Currently Sood is the DGP Karnataka. He hails from Paragpur in Kangra District. 

Earlier late Ashwini Kumar, former DGP, HP also had served as the director CBI in the recent past.

Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has congratulated Mr Sood for heading CBI. Sood will replace Mr Jaiswal as Director CBI.
