SHIMLA: State Congress President and Mandi Lok Sabha MP Pratibha Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament House and addressed the severe damage inflicted by heavy rains and landslides in the state. She urged the Prime Minister to release a special economic package to aid in relief and rehabilitation efforts.
During the meeting, held in the Prime Minister's Office, Pratibha Singh provided a comprehensive overview of the loss of life and property resulting from the relentless downpours and landslides in the state.
She conveyed that tragically, over 430 people had lost their lives, with 39 individuals still reported as missing.
Furthermore, the agricultural sector had been devastated, resulting in the complete destruction of crops and orchards.
The calamity had also claimed 1200 residential buildings and inflicted significant damage on roads and bridges. The preliminary estimate of the damage was a staggering Rs 13,000 crore, with the potential for further escalation.
Pratibha Singh made an impassioned appeal to the Prime Minister for special financial assistance, highlighting the state's inability to independently cover the losses and complete the vital relief work due to its dire financial circumstances.
She underscored the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the state's reliance on the central government for support during this disaster.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Pratibha Singh that the Central Government would extend its full support to the state during this crisis.
PM pledged that, in accordance with relief protocols, the state would receive comprehensive assistance for relief and rehabilitation efforts, she stated.
Expressing her gratitude, Pratibha Singh thanked the Prime Minister for promptly meeting with her at Parliament House, listening to her plea, and showing trust in providing the necessary financial assistance to address the catastrophe.
