SHIMLA: As the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections draw near in Himachal Pradesh, the police department is ensuring the state's security in accordance with national standards.
According to DGP police, in a recent crackdown from March 16 to March 30, the police department seized narcotics worth 1.20 crore rupees.
Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 80 suspects have been apprehended.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of 7.05 kilograms of charas valued at 14.11 lakh rupees, 659.75 grams of heroin valued at 46.18 lakh rupees, 6.08 grams of thiamine valued at 6,000 rupees, and 676 grams of opium valued at 28,170.
Additionally, under the Excise Act, 248 suspects have been arrested. The seized items include 3921.712 liters of country liquor valued at 11.76 lakh rupees, 2093.65 liters of English liquor valued at 14.65 lakh rupees, 475 liters of beer valued at 95,000 rupees, and 598 liters of narcotics valued at 89,000 rupees.
Furthermore, 82,082 liters of illicit liquor are set to be destroyed soon.
Moreover, to curb terrorist activities during the election period, 36,587 licensed weapons out of a total of 1,00,403 have been deposited with the police across the state.
These actions are expected to significantly enhance the state's security and deter illegal activities during the electoral process.
