IMD Issues Extended Range Weather Forecast for Himachal, A First in 100 Years.
Shimla – In a historic first, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a two-week advance weather forecast for Himachal Pradesh.
This marks a major milestone as the IMD completes 100 years of existence.
For Week 1 (31st January – 6th February 2025), light to moderate rain and snow are expected across most parts of the state.
However, the rainfall is likely to be below normal in most areas, except in Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kinnaur, and parts of Chamba, where precipitation could be slightly higher.
For Week 2 (7th – 13th February 2025), similar weather patterns are expected.
Light to moderate precipitation is likely in many regions.
Rainfall is expected to be normal in some parts but below normal in a few others.
In terms of temperature, maximums are expected to range between 8-16°C in high hills, 14-20°C in mid-hills, and 16-22°C in lower hills during the second week.
Overall, temperatures are expected to remain normal for this time of the year.
This extended forecast will help farmers, travelers, and disaster management teams prepare in advance.
The IMD’s decision to issue a two-week forecast for Himachal reflects a major step forward in weather prediction and preparedness.
