New Delhi: In a decision, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the inclusion of five new sports in the upcoming LA28 Olympics, a move celebrated by Union Minister of Sports and Youth Services, Anurag Singh Thakur.
The added sports, namely Baseball/Softball, Cricket (T20), Flag Football, Lacrosse (sixes), and Squash, mark a significant expansion of the Olympics' sporting repertoire.
Notably, the inclusion of Cricket and Squash, two of India's most promising and popular sports, has garnered particular attention.
With the Indian Men's Cricket team shining in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 and the remarkable debut of the Indian Women's and Men's Cricket teams at the 19th Asian Games, this decision is expected to further elevate the profile of these sports.
Furthermore, the outstanding performance of the Squash Contingent at the Asian Games 2022, featuring both experienced athletes and emerging talents, underlines the bright future of Indian Squash on a global stage.
This momentous move by the IOC is seen as a significant boost to India's Olympic prospects and a potential magnet for aspiring young athletes, poised to enhance the overall appeal and competitiveness of the upcoming Olympics in Los Angeles.
