Residents of Kagnadhar Ward No. 30 Demand Immediate Action Against Taxi Parking Chaos. Taxis and HPCL and Board Employee get parking, residents get Challans.
Shimla, Sept 27 – Residents of Ward No. 30 in Kagnadhar have voiced their outrage over the unchecked parking of taxis and private vehicles belonging to HPCL staff, which they claim is turning their peaceful neighborhood into an unofficial parking lot.
The situation has escalated to a point where locals' own vehicles are being challaned daily, while taxis and private vehicles continue to occupy the limited parking space without any permission.
"They come to pick and drop passengers, but now these taxis are parked here day and night, creating a nuisance," said one frustrated resident. "There are no toilets for the drivers, and they are misusing the space meant for us."
The situation is even more dire for residents returning home late. "Our parking spaces are being taken by these taxis. When we ask them to move, they misbehave—not just with us but even with the police," said another local, who didn’t want to be named for fear of reprisal.
The residents have raised their concerns with local authorities, but so far, they feel their complaints have fallen on deaf ears.
"I’ve taken this up with the SP of Shimla, but no action has been taken yet," said one resident. "This ward is not a junkyard for all sorts of vehicles, and we are not going to tolerate this any longer."
But there are residents who operate taxis to earn their livelihoods and live in this ward. Where will we park our vehicles, they asked.
The local councillor, Ram Ratan Verma, has assured residents that action will be taken as per the law. "We must protect the interests of our residents," Verma said. "This issue is serious, and I stand with the people of Ward No. 30."
Despite the assurance, residents remain skeptical and are calling for united action to reclaim their neighborhood.
"We’re not against taxis picking up or dropping people, but turning our ward into a permanent parking lot is unacceptable. We need support from the authorities and each other to put an end to this
