Keylong: In a  display of solidarity, members of the Save Lahaul-Spiti Society (SLSS) and tribals in general have joined renowned activist Sonam Wangchuk in his climate fast unto death, which has entered its 12th day.

Tribal Women left their chores, came out and sat on snow in the frigid temperature in Kwaring and orher places in support of Sonam Wangchuk's climate fast.

The protest, aimed at advocating for the recognition of Ladakh as a full-fledged state and its inclusion in the sixth schedule of the constitution, has garnered widespread support across the Himalayan region and outside.

Today, in various locations including Kullu,  Lahaul,, members of SLSS convened to express their unwavering support for Wangchuk's cause.

In a demonstration held at the protest grounds in Dhalpur, Kullu, 22 members from SLSS observed a day-long fast, with 8 of them actively participating in the fast throughout the day.

Moreover, a parallel demonstration was organized by SLSS in Todghat Village of Lahaul Valley, where 26 individuals joined the cause, observing a full-day fast in solidarity with Wangchuk's movement.

Speaking on behalf of SLSS, President Prem Katoch highlighted the urgency of Wangchuk's demands, emphasizing the need to address environmental concerns and prevent destructive development practices in the Himalayan region. Katoch reiterated Wangchuk's call for Ladakh's statehood and inclusion in the constitutional provisions, echoing the sentiments echoed by supporters nationwide.

Wangchuk's fast, initiated on March 6th in Ladakh, has garnered widespread support from people across different regions.

As the protest intensifies, SLSS and other organizations continue to stand firmly behind Wangchuk.  They demonstrate  their  commitment to environmental preservation and regional autonomy.

The fasting protest in support of Sonam Wangchuk's climate advocacy is scheduled to continue until 6 p.m. today, symbolizing the enduring determination of individuals and organizations to champion the cause of environmental conservation and regional empowerment.
