Dehradun, July 8: The fight against plastic waste is picking up steam in Dehradun!
The local Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation has rolled out a new community-based plastic bank at Vikas Bhawan, aiming to tackle plastic waste head-on.
Jharna Kamthan, the Chief Development Officer of Dehradun district highlighted the collaboration with local development blocks to push this initiative.
She emphasized the need for awareness programs on plastic banks at block headquarters across the district soon.
During the event at Vikas Bhawan, Anoop Nautiyal, President, SDC Foundation, laid out the details of this plastic bank project.
His team has already set up 140 plastic banks in the city over the past eight months, engaging with over 25,000 students in 41 schools.
Plastic banks have also popped up at 37 Maggi points, 31 hostels, 7 resident welfare associations, 7 showrooms, 6 universities and colleges, and many other places.
Anoop described the plastic banks as a major step towards sorting, collecting, and recycling plastic waste.
He encouraged extending this campaign to schools, universities, shops, offices, and even hospitals.
He assured that the SDC Foundation is ready to lend a hand to Vikas Bhawan or any development block needing help with this project.
Officials from various departments at Vikas Bhawan shared how their teams are handling waste, and they seemed pretty impressed with the plastic bank idea.
They’re keen to get involved and start their own campaigns.
Everyone at the event was eager to learn more about how to get their departments on board right away.
Dinesh Semwal from the SDC Foundation, who coordinated the event, mentioned that not only will the plastic waste from Vikas Bhawan's departments be collected and recycled, but also from the homes of all the staff working there.
