NEW DELHI: In a significant development, reports have emerged suggesting that Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati's 'Param Dharma Sansad' has passed a resolution to excommunicate Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Hinduism.

The Shankaracharya is addressing press conference in the afternoon today.

But does he have authority to do so? Which Hindu Religious Texts give authority to Shankaracharya to excommunicate Hindus?

No one knows  Hinduism gives freedom of expression: Satayam Ekam, Vipra  Bahuda Vadenti. Truth is one the scholars interpret it differently.

This decision is purportedly in response to a viral video in which Gandhi allegedly stated that the Manusmriti provides protection to rapists, causing distress among its adherents.

However, it's essential to note that in July 2024, Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati publicly defended Rahul Gandhi against accusations of making anti-Hindu remarks.

He emphasized that Gandhi's statements did not contradict Hindu principles, stating, "We heard Rahul Gandhi's entire speech. He is clearly saying that there is no place for violence in Hinduism."

The Congress party has consistently maintained that Rahul Gandhi's critiques are directed towards certain political ideologies and not Hinduism as a whole. They argue that his statements aim to highlight and oppose the misuse of religion for political gains.

Regarding the authority to excommunicate individuals from Hinduism, it's important to understand that Hinduism is a diverse and decentralized religion without a singular governing body.

While religious leaders and councils can express their disapproval or pass resolutions, the concept of formal excommunication is not universally recognized or enforceable within Hinduism.

While reports suggest that a resolution has been passed to excommunicate Rahul Gandhi from Hinduism, it's crucial to approach such claims with caution.

The decentralized nature of Hinduism means that such declarations may not have widespread acceptance or practical implications.
