CITU, Himachal Kisan Sabha Protest Against ‘Anti-People’ Budget
Shimla: CITU and Himachal Kisan Sabha staged state-wide protests against the Union Budget, calling it anti-labor, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate. At Shimla’s DC office, protesters burned copies of the budget, with hundreds of workers participating. Leaders Vijendra Mehra, Kuldeep Dogra, and Balak Ram slammed the budget for benefiting corporates while neglecting workers, farmers, and the poor.
CITU announced a massive workers' protest in Shimla in March 2025, with participation from industrial, construction, Anganwadi, MGNREGA, hydropower, and municipal sector workers. They accused the Modi government of selling public assets—railways, airports, insurance, and power—to private hands while ignoring key demands like ₹26,000 minimum wage, OPS restoration, and equal pay for contract workers.
The leaders dubbed it an "India on Sale" budget, imposing 12-hour work shifts under the guise of ease of doing business while slashing welfare schemes for MGNREGA, Mid-Day Meal, and ASHA workers. Corporate profits hit a 15-year high, while real wages have fallen. The government has privatized strategic sectors, ignored unpaid corporate taxes, and betrayed 65 lakh women workers by scrapping the 45th Labor Conference’s promise of regularization.
CITU warned of intensified protests if the government continues its pro-corporate policies at the cost of workers and farmers.Left
