SHIMLA: In the wake of the catastrophic downpours and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh, Pratibha Singh, State Congress President and Mandi Lok Sabha MP, has issued a plea to the Modi government, calling for the restoration of the special status of Himachal Pradesh.
This status entails a provision of 90 percent grants for implementing crucial development schemes within the state.
Though BJP claims that the Centre had already this status during the Jai Ram Thakur's government, but Pratibha Singh still claims the funds are not being given in a 90:10 ratio to Himachal.
Recognizing the challenging geographical conditions faced by the region, Singh vows to champion this cause within the Parliament.
Singh, who recently returned from a four-day tour of her parliamentary constituency in Mandi, expressed deep distress over the scale of devastation caused by heavy rains and flash floods. Countless lives have been lost, and numerous homes, roads, bridges, and buildings have been washed away, rendering hundreds of people homeless.
The extent of damage to private and government property is estimated to be worth billions of rupees.
Distressingly, the floods have also ravaged the crops of farmers and Baagwans, leaving them in urgent need of assistance.
In light of the calamity's far-reaching consequences, Singh is urging all office bearers and members of the Congress party to contribute generously to the relief fund, facilitating swift and efficient rehabilitation efforts.
She is reaching out to the general public, calling upon them to extend their support and contribute to the relief fund, ensuring that the process of rebuilding lives can be expedited.
Singh acknowledges that the road to recovery will be long and challenging, given the magnitude of the disaster. However, she emphasizes that the government is tirelessly working to provide relief and rehabilitate those affected.
She underscores the importance of solidarity during this time, urging individuals to stand together with those who have suffered the loss of their loved ones and property in this devastating calamity.
The urgency of the situation demands immediate action and support from both the governments and the public.
“It is through collective efforts and compassion that the affected communities can begin to heal the wounds inflicted by this natural disaster”, She said.
