Empowerment Unleashed: Women Seizing the Future in Tech and Leadership-- sky is limit. What top women leaders say...
SHIMLA – If women believe in themselves and the government enforces laws empowering them, while they seize opportunities in AI and drone technology, nothing on Earth can stop them from taking lead roles in society, the country, and the world at large.
This was the resounding mantra at the One-Day Capacity Building Programme hosted by the Centre for Comparative Public Law and the Centre for Child and Women Studies at Himachal Pradesh National Law University, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, New Delhi.
The event, held on May 22, 2024, at the university campus, saw a powerful convergence of minds and voices advocating for women's empowerment.
More than 300 female students, faculty members, and research scholars gathered for the event.
They were inspired by a diverse panel of experts, including Prof. (Dr.) Chanchal Kr. Singh, Vice Chancellor (Officiating), HPNLU; Ms. Meenakshi Negi, Member Secretary, National Commission for Women; Dr. Parimala Kancharla, Assistant Professor at IIT Mandi; Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Sharma from Panjab University; and Ms. Geeta Kapoor, Former Managing Director of SJVN.
The theme of the programme, “Rise and Lead Young Women Pioneering in Technology, Business, and Public Life,” set the tone for a day of thought-provoking discussions and motivational speeches.
Prof. (Dr.) Chanchal Kr. Singh kicked off the event with a presidential address emphasizing the importance of empowering young women by reviving feminist principles within legal, economic, and political frameworks.
Ms. Meenakshi Negi welcomed all participants warmly, reminding them of the historical struggles women faced in securing their right to vote, contrasting it with the Indian Republic's early recognition of women's rights.
She pointed out that while India has no shortage of laws and regulations to protect and empower women, the real challenge lies in enforcing these laws effectively.
Dr. Parimala Kancharla's session on "Tech Horizons: Navigating Emerging Opportunities in AI and Drone Technology" highlighted the critical need for women to step into emerging technological fields.
She stressed that women's participation in AI and drone technology is essential for fostering innovation and creating a brighter future.
In the second session, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Sharma discussed "Women in Decision Making: Women Leading in Public Life," presenting data showing that women's status is improving and that government policies are crucial to their progress.
He urged women to take bold steps toward leadership.
Ms. Geeta Kapoor, in her session on "Women in the Corporate Arena," shared her personal experiences and highlighted the challenges women face in the corporate world. She emphasized that self-belief is key to transforming women's roles in leadership.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar of HPNLU, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers.
