Plantation Drive at Naldehra: HP High Court Judges Lead Green Pledge

Shimla, Aug 23: The District Legal Services Authority, Shimla, in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, organized a massive plantation drive at Naldehra on Saturday.

The event was inaugurated by Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court and Patron-in-Chief of the State Legal Services Authority, Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia.

Several judges of the High Court, including Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Satyen Vaidya, Justice Sushil Kukreja, Justice Virender Singh, Justice Ranjan Sharma and Justice Rakesh Kainthla, also took part in the drive.

The dignitaries planted saplings, pledging to combat climate change and preserve Himachal’s green wealth. Chief Justice Sandhawalia underlined that legal institutions carry not just the responsibility of delivering justice, but also a moral duty to safeguard the environment.

“Forests are the lifeline of Himachal, and plantation initiatives are crucial to secure the future of coming generations,” he said.

Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Executive Chairman of the HP State Legal Services Authority, stressed that such drives are not symbolic gestures but a way to instill environmental consciousness, especially among youth.

He called for collective participation from the judiciary, government, legal fraternity, and citizens to protect the environment.

The drive saw active participation from Advocate General Anup Rattan, Bar Council Chairman Lovneesh Kanwar, District Bar Association President Bunesh Pal, senior officers of the High Court, and senior forest officials including PCCF Dr. Sanjay Sood, CCF K. Thirumal, and DFO Aniket Wanve.

All participants not only planted saplings but also pledged to work towards sustainability and ecological balance.

The HP State Legal Services Authority reiterated that its role extends beyond justice delivery—serving as a catalyst for social change and environmental stewardship.
