Shimla, April 3: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a nowcast warning for the evening hours, predicting light to moderate rainfall across the state, with intense weather activity in isolated areas.

For Shimla city and adjoining regions, the department has forecast light to moderate rain with one or two intense spells, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.

Across the state, weather conditions are expected to turn more active. Districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Mandi are likely to witness rain at many places, with isolated intense spells, hailstorms, thunderstorms, and winds blowing at 50–60 kmph.

In higher altitude regions like Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti, along with upper reaches of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Shimla districts, light rain and snowfall is very likely.

The weather office has also issued a 12-hour outlook (till 9:00 AM on April 4), warning that similar conditions will persist through the night, with widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across most parts of the state.

Advisory Issued

Under the ‘Watch’ category, authorities have cautioned residents about possible partial damage to vulnerable structures, disruption to power and communication lines, and slippery road conditions leading to traffic congestion. Essential services and outdoor activities may also face temporary disruptions.

People have been advised to remain indoors during intense spells, avoid sheltering under trees, and stay away from water bodies and electrical objects.

Farmers, especially orchardists, have been urged to protect crops from hail and ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging.

With sudden weather swings likely, both residents and tourists have been asked to stay updated with official advisories and exercise caution while travelling in hilly areas.
