Heavy Rain Alert in Himachal: IMD Warns of Intense Spells in 9 Districts
Shimla, August 31 – The Meteorological Centre, Shimla has sounded a fresh alert warning of heavy rain spells across Himachal Pradesh in the next six hours. According to the IMD, light to moderate rain is very likely at most places, but districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan may witness intense to very intense spells. In Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Una, rain will remain light to moderate with isolated intense showers.
The bulletin pointed to multiple weather systems – including a monsoon trough stretching from Rajasthan to the Bay of Bengal, and a cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan – fuelling the rains.
A Western Disturbance persisting over north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab is also adding to the wet spell.
Rainfall recorded till morning (0830 hrs):
Kangra received the highest at 45.4 mm, followed by Kufri (35 mm), Palampur (32 mm), and Una (37.2 mm).
Shimla logged 18.2 mm, Manali 18 mm, and Dharamshala 8.8 mm.
Keylong (Lahaul) recorded 3 mm, while Kalpa saw 1.6 mm.

The lowest minimum temperature was at Kukumseri (8.2°C).
The highest maximum temperature was reported from Bilaspur (32.9°C).
Shimla recorded 16.2°C (min) and 22°C (max).
The IMD has advised people, especially in landslide- and flood-prone areas, to remain alert as intermittent heavy downpours may trigger flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging.
For real-time updates, the department urged citizens to follow Mausam IMD Shimla Website and its social media handles.
