Army motorbikes set to launch Kargil expedition

MANALI:  THE Indian Army today launched a nationwide motorcycle expedition to honor the 25th anniversary of the Kargil War victory.

This expedition, involving 24 riders split into three teams, sets out to commemorate the bravery of the soldiers who fought in the 1999 conflict against Pakistan.

The three teams have begun their journey from Dinjan in the East, Dwarka in the West, and Dhanushkodi in the South. Each team will traverse different routes through India, reflecting the unity and resilience of the Indian Armed Forces.

Along their routes, they will connect with Kargil War heroes, veterans, and Veer Naris (widows of soldiers) and pay respects at various war memorials.

The Eastern team will travel from Dinjan to Delhi, passing through places like Jorhat, Guwahati, and Lucknow, covering about 2,489 kilometers.

The Western team, starting from Dwarka, will head to Delhi via cities such as Ahmedabad and Jaipur, covering 1,565 kilometers. The Southern team, starting from Dhanushkodi, will make its way to Delhi through cities like Madurai, Bengaluru, and Nagpur, covering approximately 2,963 kilometers.

All three teams will converge in Delhi on June 26th, from where they will split into two routes to reach Dras, a significant site in the Kargil War. One group will take the route through Ambala, Amritsar, and Srinagar, while the other will travel through Chandimandir, Manali, and Leh.

This expedition is more than just a journey; it is a tribute to the sacrifices and stories of courage from the Kargil War. Organized by the Regiment of Artillery, known for its crucial role in Operation Vijay, the riders carry messages of valor and patriotism across the nation.

Flag-off and flag-in ceremonies at key locations will feature senior military officials, veterans, and Veer Naris, who will support and celebrate the riders' mission.

The expedition will culminate at Gun Hill in Dras, retracing the paths of bravery and dedication shown by the soldiers during the war.
