GUWAHATI: IN a move to end the VIP culture of free electricity for government officials, the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today that starting July 1, both he and the Chief Secretary will personally pay their electricity bills.
This decision marks the beginning of a new policy where, from July 2024, all public servants will be required to cover their own electricity costs.
The Chief Minister's initiative sets a precedent that other states are encouraged to follow, demonstrating a commitment to fair use of taxpayer money and fostering greater accountability among public officials.
