New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Scientist–C posted with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 from a complainant in exchange for issuing a mandatory certification.
According to the CBI, a complaint was received alleging that the accused official had sought illegal gratification for facilitating the issuance of a certificate from the FMDC (Factory Manufacturing Data Certification) wing of BIS. Acting on the complaint, the agency verified the allegations and laid a trap.
The accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. The CBI team immediately apprehended the official and recovered the bribe money from his possession.
Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the premises of the accused to ascertain whether he had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Further investigation in the case is underway to probe the extent of corruption in the BIS office.
