SHIMLA/MANALI: Freak spells of snow across the Atal Tunnel and Rohtang Pass have set the tone for a festive winter in Himachal Pradesh.
Tourists are now making a beeline for Shimla Manali Dalhousie Dharamshala Kufri Narkanda and Kaza ahead of Christmas and New Year 2026.
The capital city Shimla is buzzing with visitors hoping for a white Christmas and a snowy new year. Even without snowfall the bright sunshine misty mornings and clean air are lifting spirits instantly.
Tourists escaping choking smog in metros of Delhi, Mumbai, cities in Punjab, Haryana and other cities are breathing easy in the hills. The pleasant weather and crystal clear air are turning Himachal into a winter refuge.
Winter Carnival, Saras Mela and other attractions on the Ridge and Mall Road have become major crowd pullers.
Traditional handicrafts local products and Himachali flavours are adding colour and charm.
Visitors are relishing Siddu ghee, Kangri Dham,momos and local snacks at the venue and heritage cafes and dhabas and restaurants. Cultural shows music dance and beauty competitions are keeping the festive mood alive.
The five day Winter Carnival is on around Christmas is expected to draw families in large numbers. Christmas revelry from across the region is steadily zeroing in on Shimla.
Hotel occupancy is rising sharply bringing cheer to the hospitality industry. Hoteliers say the mood is upbeat and bookings are coming in fast.
Manali is painting a similar picture with snowfall near the Atal Tunnel and Rohtang Pass at 13500ft.
Tourists are enjoying icy landscapes in North portal, Koksar, Gramphu blessed with snowfall recently while police in Lahaul Spiti are urging slow and careful driving.
Good footfall is also being reported from Chamba Dalhousie Khajjiar Dharamshala Palampur and Rohru. Himachal Pradesh is clearly the winter destination of choice this festive season.
