Dibrugarh/Shimla – The city of Dibrugarh has been facing with artificial floods, primarily caused by encroachments, leaving residents struggling with disrupted daily life due to heavy rains.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is also the local MP, visited the Naliapool area today to inspect the drainage and sewerage systems. 

During his visit, Sonowal emphasized the urgency of finding a sustainable solution to the poorly designed drainage system.

He announced that IIT Guwahati will conduct a comprehensive study to identify the root causes of the artificial floods and develop a master plan for corrective measures.

Sonowal, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the gravity of the situation: "The artificial floods in Dibrugarh are a significant concern. We need an economically prudent, ecologically viable, and environmentally sustainable solution.

"Encroachments are a major cause of these floods, and civic bodies must act against those violating the law.", observed Sonowal 

He called for swift action from officials and urged them to incorporate expert opinions to tackle this issue effectively.

Accompanied by the Mayor of Dibrugarh, Saikat Patra, and District Commissioner Vikram Kairi, Sonowal assured the public that all efforts would be made to resolve the flooding crisis and bring relief to the affected residents.

In Thunag CM Sukhu had visited the town  after the flood and directed to probe the reason of flood, but nothing came out so far.  It is still a mystery as to how big logs and uprooted trees flooded Thunag.
