KULLU: An NGO run by Abhishek Rai has urged the Himachal Pradesh DGP and senior state authorities to ensure the safety of Rai and his family after he allegedly received an anonymous threat letter asking him to withdraw a petition concerning alleged rave parties and drug-related activities in Kullu district.
In a representation addressed to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, DGP and Superintendent of Police, Rai said he had received a threatening communication purportedly asking him to withdraw the petition immediately.
The NGO has sought a thorough investigation into the threat and appropriate action against those responsible.
According to the representation, Rai had raised the issue of alleged rave parties being organised in parts of Kullu district, including Kasol, Manali and Jibhi, and alleged links with drug trafficking and other anti-social activities.
The matter subsequently came under the scrutiny of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The representation refers to CWPIL No. 53 of 2025, “Court on its Own Motion vs State of Himachal Pradesh and Others,” which, according to Rai, is listed before the High Court on August 6, 2026.
Rai has expressed serious apprehension about his safety and that of his family, stating that he has been spending most of his time at home or office and avoiding unnecessary movement in view of the perceived threat.
The NGO has urged the police to identify and investigate the persons behind the anonymous threat, take appropriate legal action against those found responsible and provide necessary security to Rai and his family.
A copy of the alleged threat letter has also been submitted to the authorities for their perusal and necessary action.
The allegations concerning rave parties, drug trafficking and the identity of those behind the alleged threat remain subject to police investigation and judicial consideration.
