New Delhi, 18th October: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a gathering of Buddhist scholars and monks on the occasion of Buddhist Dhamma Day.
He highlighted the importance of India’s classical languages and the rich cultural heritage they preserve.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, “India's classical languages are not just languages but repositories of our ancient wisdom and cultural identity.” He emphasized that these languages help honor and preserve the values passed down by our ancestors.
The event marked the celebration of Dhamma Day, which commemorates the Buddha's first sermon after enlightenment. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of Lord Buddha's teachings, especially compassion, peace, and harmony.
“Buddhism is not only a religion but a way of life that resonates with people across the globe,” PM Modi said. “On this sacred occasion of Dhamma Day, we are reminded of the relevance of Buddha’s teachings in today’s world.”
Monks from various countries and Buddhist scholars gathered to celebrate. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving India’s cultural legacy and urged people to embrace the path of Dhamma.
The event included chanting, cultural performances, and discussions on the significance of the Buddha’s teachings in the modern world.
