The Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, announced the arrest of two Indian drug smugglers, Gurbinder Singh (alias Binder) and Kulwant Singh (alias Kanta), hailing from Tarn Taran's Mallan village. The police also impounded their Maruti Swift Dzire car (PB-18-M-8998).

Acting on reliable inputs on  an impending drug smuggling attempt by Pakistani-based smugglers, the Counter Intelligence Ferozepur police conducted a covert operation in the Qilla Chowk area of Ferozepur.

The operation successfully led to the apprehension of both accused individuals, who were transporting a significant 12 kg heroin consignment. This substantial drug haul was concealed in 16 packets.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, Lakbhir Singh, noted that the accused already had a history of involvement in drug smuggling and had faced multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Ongoing investigations seek to identify more  smugglers connected to this network, with further arrests anticipated.

A case, FIR No. 35 dated 11-10-2023, has been registered under sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.
