red weather alert for Himachal in next 24 to 48 hours

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the MET Centre in Shimla have issued an extremely heavy rain alert mainly for July 9th at 13:30 hours.

The alert covers isolated areas in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi districts, with expected rainfall persisting for the next 24 to 48 hours.

The forecast predicts moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in many places within Mandi, Solan, Shimla, Kangra, and Kullu districts today.

NDMA has cautioned tourists against traveling within the next 24 to 48 hours, primarily in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi districts.

Moreover, NDMAEW has raised a red alert, indicating a high probability of extremely heavy rainfall in in these districts over the next 24 to 48 hours.

In light of the forecast, a helpline number, 1070, has been provided for any emergencies or assistance required by the public.

Rohtang Pass has been shut down for the tourists due to flood in Rahni Nala. Tourists are being asked  travel from Atal Tunnel and Koksar to visit 13500 ft high  Rohtang Pass, the snowy tourist hotspot.

 Border Roads Organisation  is on the job to clear the landslide at Telling Nala and Rahni Nala to restore the highway and resume traffic flow.

Considering the intense rainfall, tourists are strongly advised to avoid areas near the rivers and nallas and to remain indoors during peak rainfall.

This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of visitors in Kullu, Manali, Mandi, and Lahaul-Spiti and Shimla.
