After waiting for over four decades, now has a Development Plan to guide its growth and protect the environment. The plan is created under the AMRUT Sub-Scheme of the Indian Government, taking into account Shimla's potential as a tourist destination. It also considers the city's ability to accommodate more residents and visitors by 2041.

The Town and Country Planning Department prepared this plan, keeping in mind the High Court and the National Green Tribunal's directions.

To safeguard Shimla's green spaces, particularly the area from Navbahar to Sanjauli Chowk, strict rules are proposed. No construction will be allowed on plots in this Green Belt Area if even a single tree stands on them.

Additionally, a drainage plan will be developed to manage excessive rainwater effectively, especially after recent heavy rains and disasters in urban and rural areas.

To enhance safety, the government wants to inspect foundations for all buildings in urban, planning, and special areas. High-risk buildings will require geological and structural reports during approval.

These measures aim to make both urban and rural areas more resilient to future disasters, said officials.
