Keylong | After a long dry spell, the landlocked Lahaul valley finally witnessed light snowfall on Wednesday, bringing cheer to locals and tourists alike.
With fresh snow carpeting the region, several tourists travelling from Manali diverted towards the Atal Tunnel to experience snowfall near the north portal in Lahaul. However, as the intensity of snowfall increased, the police stepped in and advised visitors to return to Manali, warning that worsening weather conditions could lead to road blockades and make travel unsafe.
The Lahaul-Spiti police also issued a public advisory, urging motorists to use snow chains compulsorily on slippery roads, drive at slow speeds, maintain a safe distance between vehicles and avoid sudden braking. Emphasising caution, the police said a little care can prevent major accidents and reminded travellers that safety should always come first.
The advisory was issued under the hashtag campaign #LahaulSpitiPolice, with SP Shivani Mehla appealing to the public to follow road safety norms and ensure responsible winter driving in the high-altitude region.
