Shimla | January 17, 2026

Himachal Kisan Sabha has given a call for “Secretariat Chalo” today. The protest is against reckless four-lane construction across Shimla. The Sabha says the government, NHAI and contractors are only giving hollow assurances.

In Sanjay Van, one building collapsed completely. Cracks have appeared in six more houses. Several families are still homeless and unable to return.

In Bhattakufar, a huge crater suddenly opened on the road. A young girl narrowly escaped death. Panic spread in the area.

Now cracks have surfaced in houses at Chalauthi as well. Many families have again been forced out. Fear is growing among residents.

The Sabha asked what kind of development this is. It said people are losing their lifetime savings. All due to faulty four-lane construction.

Construction companies are acting without fear, it alleged. The government and local representatives are silent. No strict action is being taken.

It also blamed public silence. When Shurala protested, others stayed quiet. The same happened in Bhattakufar and Sanjay Van.

This silence empowers the companies, the Sabha said. It also gives the government a way to escape responsibility. People are paying the price.

The Sabha claimed companies donate crores to political parties. Donations are given through electoral bonds and other routes. This buys political silence, it alleged.

Whether it is the ruling party or opposition, no one speaks out. Centre and state governments both hesitate. Corporate interests dominate, it said.

State President Dr Kuldeep Singh Tanwar called it a dangerous nexus. He blamed corrupt officials and big companies. He said this alliance always works against the public.

Tanwar said unity is the only solution. People must mobilise and struggle. Only then relief is possible.

The Sabha demanded a scientific audit. GSI, IIT Roorkee and IIT Mandi should examine the projects. Work must stop if norms are violated.

It also demanded compensation for affected families. Losses must be assessed properly. Victims should be paid immediately.

A march will be taken out on January 19.  It will go from Totu Ground to the Secretariat. All affected families have been asked to join.

Tanwar appealed to the public  to come out in large numbers. “This fight is for our homes and lives,” he said.
