Shimla, August 23:
Lions Club Shimla organised a tree plantation drive at Baldeyan near the school in Shenal Village, where 100 pine and oak saplings were planted with the participation of Lions members and local residents.
The plantation programme was aimed at promoting environmental conservation, increasing green cover and creating awareness about the protection of the natural environment. A total of 13 Lions members joined residents in planting saplings in and around the school area.
Lions Club Shimla President Lion O. P. Mehta said tree plantation should be followed by regular care and protection of saplings to ensure their survival and growth. He stressed the involvement of local communities, students and young people in environmental activities.
Area Leader Lion Manmohan Verma of Lions International District said the Plant Trees, Protect Nature initiative reflected the shared responsibility of society towards environmental conservation and encouraged people to participate in protecting trees for future generations.
The participants also interacted with local residents and discussed the responsibility of nurturing the newly planted saplings.
Those present included Lion O. P. Mehta, Lion Manmohan Verma, Lion Anil Sood, Lion Dr. Daleep Sharma, Lion Dr. Rajesh Chanana, Lion Prof. C. B. Mehta, Lion Sanjeev Khanna, Lion M. K. Sharma, Lion Prof. K. C. Sharma, Lion Gopal Krishan Vaid, Lion Sushil Kumar Sood and other Lions members along with local residents.
The Lions Club Shimla said it would continue organising initiatives related to environmental protection, community welfare and social service across the Shimla region.
