SC Commission meeting in Shimla

12-Year-Old Dalit Boy’s Death in Chirgaon: Family Alleges Police Inaction, No Arrests Yet

Shimla:

The death of a 12-year-old Dalit boy in Limda village, Chidgaon, has triggered outrage as the family and community leaders accuse the police of dragging their feet.

Despite an FIR being registered, not a single arrest has been made so far.

Taking note of the growing anger, the Himachal Pradesh Scheduled Caste Commission has directed the police to submit a detailed report within three days.

Commission Chairman Kuldeep Kumar Dhiman slammed the police for not registering the case under the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act at the very outset.

“Because of this lapse, the accused easily secured bail from the High Court. This is extremely serious and unacceptable,” Dhiman said, warning that if the police continued to go slow, the Commission would step in with strict measures.

The boy’s family alleged that the accused are roaming free while they continue to face intimidation.

“The police are only doing paperwork, but no real action has been taken,” the aggrieved relatives said.

The Commission also instructed the police to provide security to the victim’s family and thoroughly investigate the role of other persons, including suspected outside elements.

DIG (Law and Order) Ranjna Chauhan confirmed that one woman has been named in the FIR and DSP Rohru is leading the probe, but added that identification of the other accused will depend on further investigation.

Leaders of Dalit organisations, including Baba Saheb Ambedkar Society and Safai Karamchari Union, joined the meeting and strongly condemned the police’s “deliberate inaction.”

They demanded immediate arrests to ensure such incidents do not recur.

While the Chief Minister has already taken note of the case, the family and relatives  rue  they are being intimidated as they are poor and seek  justice.
