Dharamshala:

Arni University students in Kangra district breathed a fresh lease of life after a daring midnight rescue by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as relentless rain pounded Himachal Pradesh.

The rescue unfolded under heavy downpour and swirling floodwaters, when NDRF personnel braved the odds to carry each student out of danger. Their effort turned panic into relief, as stranded youngsters found themselves safe in the arms of the rescuers.

Many students recalled the harrowing moments. “We thought we would not survive the night. The water kept rising and darkness made it worse.

But when NDRF jawans reached us, it was like life had returned,” said Priya Thakur, a final-year student. Another student, Rohit Sharma, added, “They risked everything for us. We owe them our lives.”

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu lauded the operation, saying: “They did not care for day or night, nor for their own lives, but carried every single student to safety with courage and compassion. Their sacrifice has filled every heart in Himachal with pride.”
