High-Level Probe Ordered into Mysterious Death of HPPCL Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, Protestors Demand Suspension of Top Brass
Shimla | March 19 — The Himachal Pradesh Government today ordered a high-level probe into the mysterious death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi of HPPCL, following massive protests by his family, friends, and employees of the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL).
They shouted slogans, corrupt bureaucracy, HPPCL mudabad, Meena Murdabad...
The government has appointed Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma to head the probe. Until the inquiry is complete, Rajesh Prajapati will take over as the new MD, replacing Hirkishan Meena, while Surender Kumar replaces Director Des Raj — both facing serious allegations by the protestors.
Vimal Negi’s wife Kiren Negi, family, friends, and HPPCL staff squatted outside the HPPCL Headquarters since morning, raising slogans and demanding immediate suspension of MD Meena and Director Des Raj.
They demand CBI Probe and suspension of Meena and DesRaj.
The protestors alleged that both the officers had been mentally harassing Negi, forcing him into depression and ultimately leading to his death under mysterious circumstances.
Protestors also demanded that the third Director (Personnel and Finance) be removed or sidelined for the sake of a fair inquiry, alleging he could influence the probe outcome.
SP Sanjeev Gandhi and DC Shimla Anupam Kashyap rushed to the spot, assuring protestors that the government had taken action. Gandhi confirmed that an FIR has been lodged, and the police will probe the case fairly.
“No one is above law. We will ensure justice is done,” Gandhi assured the family, but the protestors remained angry and insisted that until the trio is suspended, justice is a distant dream.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the state’s power sector, with demands growing for an impartial investigation into “what pushed a senior officer like Vimal Negi to death?”
The government now stares at a tough test — will the probe nail the guilty or become another cover-up?
