Prof. Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi Takes Charge as New IIAS Director; Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari Given Warm Farewell
Shimla, October 15: The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, held a graceful ceremony at Rashtrapati Niwas here to welcome its new Director, Professor Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, and bid farewell to Professor Raghavendra P. Tiwari, who held additional charge of the post.
The function, chaired by Professor Shashiprabha Kumar, Chairperson of IIAS, saw participation from members, scholars, and staff. Professor Shailendra Raj Mehta, Vice Chairman of the Governing Body, joined virtually as Guest of Honour.
Welcoming Prof. Chaturvedi, Prof. Shashiprabha Kumar said his leadership would steer the Institute towards new milestones in innovation and research. She also lauded Prof. Tiwari’s tenure for his steady academic stewardship.
Addressing the gathering virtually, Prof. Tiwari—currently Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda—described IIAS as a “living embodiment of Indian thought and philosophy,” thanking the Institute’s staff and scholars for their cooperation.
In his maiden address, Prof. Chaturvedi said, “The IIAS is where tradition and creativity evolve together.
It represents India’s intellectual consciousness, and our collective task is to take it to new heights through research, publications, and dialogues.”
Prof. Mehta commended both scholars for their contributions, noting that while Prof. Tiwari’s tenure upheld discipline and dedication, Prof. Chaturvedi’s leadership promises renewed ideas and vision.
Concluding the ceremony, Prof. Shashiprabha Kumar called IIAS a beacon of India’s intellectual tradition, where dialogue and critical thought converge.
The vote of thanks was presented by Shri Mehar Chand Negi, Secretary, IIAS, while Akhilesh Pathak, Public Relations Officer, conducted the proceedings.
