Shimla Police’s Special Cell arrested a Punjab-based youth and recovered 20.880 grams of heroin (chitta) from a car dashboard during a naka near Auckland Tunnel and Lakkar Bazaar.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by ASI Punit intercepted the vehicle coming from Lakkar Bazaar towards Sanjauli. During the search, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, the contraband was found concealed inside the dashboard.

The accused has been identified as Arshdeep Singh (26), son of Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Guru Har Sahai tehsil in Ferozepur district, Punjab.

Preliminary investigation suggests he was bringing the drugs from outside the state for supply in Shimla.

Sanjauli police have registered a case under the NDPS Act, arrested the accused, and seized the car used for trafficking.

Further questioning is underway to trace the source of the drugs and the intended buyers.

Police said special drives are being intensified as heroin abuse continues to rise among city youth.
