VikramadityaWedding

SHIMLA: Shimla is draped in anticipation as wedding bells ring for PWD and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, the political heir of Himachal’s most celebrated leader, late six-time Chief Minister Raja Virbhadra Singh, and state Congress president Pratibha Singh.

The young scion of the Rampur-Bushahr royal family,  one of the former princely states of the western Himalayas, is all set to tie the knot with Dr. Amreen Sekhon, a distinguished academic from Punjab.

The wedding card, already viral on social media, has set tongues wagging across political and social circles.

This will be Vikramaditya’s second marriage, while for Dr. Sekhon—an Assistant Professor at Panjab University, with dual master’s degrees in English and Psychology and a PhD in Psychology—it will be the first.

Around 35, she is said to have been a long-time friend of Vikramaditya.

The Rampur-Bushahr dynasty, tracing its lineage back to princely traditions of the Satluj Valley, has always been revered for its blend of culture, politics, and patronage of the arts.

Weddings in this royal household have historically been grand affairs, steeped in rituals that reflect both Rajput and Himachali traditions—where temple bells, folk music, and pahari hospitality merge to create a spectacle.

Yet, a big question lingers—will the wedding be a low-profile family affair, or will it unfold in true royal splendour?

With the family maintaining silence and not making any official announcement so far, curiosity is only growing. Insiders whisper that there is still about a month to go, leaving room for speculation over the scale and grandeur of the ceremony.

Vikramaditya, who grew up at the family’s iconic Holly Lodge estate in Shimla, was schooled at Bishop Cotton School, graduated in History from Hansraj College, Delhi University, and later completed his master’s from London.

He formally entered politics in 2013 as president of the Himachal Youth Congress, won the Shimla Rural seat twice (2017 and 2022), and now holds the powerful PWD and Urban Development portfolios in the Sukhu government.

Despite political storms—be it his high-profile electoral clash with Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut in Mandi, or his brief rebellion during the Rajya Sabha polls—the wedding brings a pause, a moment of festivity, to the otherwise turbulent political churning taking place in Himachal.

For locals and loyalists, the marriage of Vikramaditya is seen as a continuation of the royal legacy—where the old grandeur of the Rampur-Bushahr family meets the aspirations of a new generation.
